What are the advantages of PETG over other plastic materials?

Comparing PETG with PC and acrylic
PETG is easy to produce products with complex shapes and large stretches, and has excellent thermoforming properties. Moreover, the forming cycle is shorter, the required temperature is lower and the yield is higher.

At the same time, the toughness of PETG extruded sheet is 15-20 times that of general acrylic and 5-10 times that of impact modified acrylic. It has a very good bearing capacity in processing, transportation and use, and can prevent cracking more effectively.

However, the physical properties are much worse than PC, but higher transparency and chemical resistance than PC can prevent yellowing. It does not contain bisphenol A, burns without black smoke, and can be recycled.

Compared with PET
The surface properties of PETG are superior to those of ordinary PET in terms of printability and adhesion. The transparency of PETG is comparable to PMMA. The hardness, smoothness and post-processing ability of the product are better than those of PET. The finished product is very high-end. Besides its separate application, it is also used in co-extrusion with ordinary PET.
Comparing with PET, PCTG has obvious disadvantage, that is, the price is very high, which is 2-3 times higher than that of PET. At present, most of the packaging bottle materials on the market are mainly PET materials. PET materials have the characteristics of light weight, high transparency, impact resistance and not fragile.

In fact, the advantages of PETG compared with PET are relatively limited, not a huge change, in some lighter bottles and cosmetics products will have advantages over PET. Maybe we can make some achievements in some special fields, such as optical materials. But if the price of PETG cannot be reduced, it will be difficult to replace PET completely even under the pressure of environmental protection.
